My comment was in response to your statement that many people prefer SF to
history.  I've read a little SF, but greatly prefer history, or science.

If it ever happens that you, and a small group, are in a survival situation,
small unit tactics would be pretty handy to know, and would be no less important
than food-growing skills.

Just remember, those who would try to prey on the prepared, or marginally so,
will most likely be travelling as gangs. What's a gang but a small unit?

Maybe we won't be able to field a small unit, but you can bet we'll be facing
them.
