======== Newsgroups: misc.survivalism Subject: Cold weather survival tips from Fort Drum From: tempcrow@io.com (John L. Most of it was common sense (Don't sweat, eat extra food to recover excess calories) but there were some good tips: Drink alot: Dehydration contibutes to frostbite Keep a canteen in your parka (to keep it from freezing) Watch out for your black buddies; they are more susseptible to frostbite Two important Things to have in your cold-weather emergency kit: A tmapon and a condom: The tampon because dry cotton makes great tinder and a condom can be packed with a liter and a half of snow and put in your parka to provide drinking water. My Fiancee informs me that there is only one brand of tampons that still comes wraped in cellophane (and thus is more likely to be dry when you need it) and that Nonoxydill(sp?)-9 numbs the mouth somewhat but otherwise has no lasting helth effects.
