Basicly it is just a name for a very effective way of communicating with the brain at subconscious levels. Each person has a Visual, Auditory, and Kinsthetic system at a conscious level, and one of them at subconscious levels that is dominant. They may have a different one which is dominant at each level. The job of the therapist is to determine the individuals dominent system, then to use that system in communication with them. By doing so, they understand the communication more completely. So they can make much faster progress in therapy. As the subconscious controls eye-movements, it is quite easy for a trained individual to determine which system the individual has by asking questions, and observing HOW the person moves their eyes. They will move up above horizontal quite obviously and to the individuals left, and or right if they are thinking of things which happened in a visual manner at subconscious levels. IF auditory, will move their eyes to the left or left and down. IF kinesthetic, they will move their eyes to their right or right and down. Learning HOW to talk to a person in their "subconscious" language is important, many of the relationships where people say "I just cant understand my wife, husband, sibling, et al" is caused by the differences in the way people communicate. My wife is dominantly visual at subconscious and conscious levels, it is one of the reasons that she is such a great painter. She has stronger and more vivid visual images than anyone else that I know. While I am unconsciously auditory, and consciously kinesthetic, which is the reason that I talk about my "feelings" so much of the time, unlike many men. (Only 20% of all men are kinesthetic.) Before I learned about Neuro Linguistics, we used to have a LOT of upsetting differences and arguments about them. By learning this, within a short time I was able to communicate with her more effectively, there were fewer misunderstandings, and I could understand what she was saying, because I could translate her visual speach into my auditory or kinesthetic language. Most therapists will say they are only effective with 30-40% of those they see, this is one of the reasons. They communicate well with those individuals who have the same unconscious system, and not with all those who do not. If they happen to be visual, they are in luck for 60% are visual. If they are auditory or kinesthetic, each of these systems are only 20% of the population. As I had both, it made it less than ideal for me, because like many therapists I was successful with only about 45% of my clients. Within months of learning NLP, my success rate improved, until I could communicate effective in all three dominent systems. Once I had an attorney who came for help with the bar exam, and then continued for some time in order to learn these systems well and how to communicate in them. She became very good at it, and used it in her presentations to the Jury, within a year she was winning every case that she took, because she would make her summary 60% Visual, 20% auditory, and 20% kinesthetic in its wording. When questioning people on the stand, she could get more significant information, help them to recall easier by asking questions in their subconscious system. Last time I talked to her, she had only lost one case in over 18 months, and one attorney said as they were leaving the courtroom, "I dont know what you are doing or how you do it, but I did not prepare well for that case because I thought it was a sure win. You are too _good_ and that is not fair." She said, "If you dont prepare properly, you are not _fair_ to your clients." --- FLAME v1.0 * Origin: For PTSD or Emotions & Physical HELP 714-525-1706 (1:10/25) PATH: 10/25 103/501 121 3615/50 138/103 1 352/3 410 90
