Hypnosis or Self hypnoss can help anyone regardless of the problems. Sure, it is not possible to change some things. IE if you feel depressed on a cloudy day, you cant stop the clouds and make the sun come up. BUT, you can get rid of the feelings caused by cloudy days, so that you virtually feel as good as you feel when it is not cloudy. It is not possible to stop others from doing things you do not like. BUT, it is possible to change the way that you FEEL when they do those things. > Early this spring my phycologest used a hyponosis he called Eye > Movement Desensivety. There are easier methods, and they enable the individual to stimulate the production of alpha themselves. The subconscious KNOWS what they are, all we have to do is teach it WHAT to do about them, and HOW to do it. > Do you have anything along this line that would help me discover > why I tend to overeat. For I'm 50lbs overweight and just thinging about > loosing weight sends me to the refigarator. It is not even necessary do discover WHY you tend to overeat. You can also desensitize yourself to the "triggers" or the stimulus which causes you to over eat. Just a in the example you give, you can eliminate the unconscious cause of your trip to the refrigerator, when you just think about losing weight. Sometimes you will also learn WHAT causes the trip. Example: For many years I fought a constant battle with my weight. When I decided to use my own set of tapes called CONFLICT RESOLUTION. Then began asking my mind WHY I felt like eating when I was not hungry, the answer was many times related to my childhood when I was under eight. I grew up during the depression. Many times my father was lucky to get even one or two days work a month. Sometimes we would get food from the WPA, but the distrabution method used in my thinking today was crazy. Sometime we got a case of eggs, and no fruit. Other times we got a case of prunes, and no protien, etc. So as many others in those days, I went to bed hungry many nights. My thoughts caused me to believe that anytime I did not eat, I was going to starve. Another cause was the word diet itself. Die-t, actually has the word DIE in it, and the subconscious is VERY aware of things like that. Other reasons were the times my mother piled food on my plate and when I did not want to eat so much, she said, "you have to eat or you will get sick." Such suggestions become self-fullfilling suggestions, many WILL then get sick because of the suggestion and we can feel sick, even if we are NOT sick, when we do not eat. Using the set of tapes on CONFLICT RESOLUTION, deals with things like this that we become consciously aware of, and also many things we are not even aware exist. ONE of the major causes of overweight, is lack of exercise. I sit at a desk at least 10-14 hours a day. Even when I ate only 500-600 calories some days I did not lose a pound. No one would believe me, but I KNOW what I am eating. The problem was, when you eat like that your BRAIN knows it is NOT getting the NUTRIENTS that it needs to survive. Result, it shuts down the matabolism, so you use even less energy. It steals nutrients from the immune system that it needs to protect you from illness, etc. Solution: I purchased a Stair Stepper, for only $49 from the Montegomery Ward Catalog. When I first got it, I could not do more than 25 repititions without my legs aching, BUT I DID THEM. Then I thought, I wonder if it would help, even if I could only do 25 at a time, if I used it once an hour. So I begain doing so inbetween each client, and set an hour timer to remind me when working on the computer. IT WORKED! Doing this ten times a day was not difficult, but it gave me the same benefit as if I had climbed 25 stairs once each hour. Within a week I was doing 35-40, then gradually increased to 100 repititions ten times a day or the equivelent of walking up 1000 STAIRS..... Over time my legs got stronger and stronger, and I also was holding first 1 lb weights and swinging my arms. After awhile, I increased them to 2, then 5 lb wts. I also began bending my arm at the elbow as I swung it, and brought my weight up until it almost touched my shoulder. Now I am doing 700 repititions at one time! Three times per day. The aerobic effect is even better, my respiration has improved, and all along I have been dropping weight IN SPITE OF THE FACT, that I have been eating MORE..... [grin] I HAD to begin eating more, to slow down my weight loss, for once I got beyond a certain point with the exercise, I began dropping 5-7 lbs per week, and I feel that was too fast. I still drop about 3 lbs per week, but at the same time my measurements shrink. When reducing, it is important to measure some major areas of your body, why, because it is NATURAL to STOP LOSING WEIGHT.... as the body turns the healthy food into MUSCLE, as it is burning the fat. Because one pound of solid muscle is SMALLER than one pound of fat, you lose inches in spite of the fact that some times you do not drop a single pound. WHO cares what the scale says, when you FEEL BETTER, LOOK BETTER, your clothes FIT better, you can put things on you could not wear for a long time and you are HEALTHIER..... REALISTIC weight loss, is NOT going on a diet, but creating HEALTHIER eatting patterns. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND the book. "BOTTOMS UP" by Dr Joyce Vedral, it is an * excellent * book on exercise, with * realistic * goals and plans for those of all ages, and all physical conditions, and some good advice. That book can teach you more faster than I could hear, and you can refer to it over and over, until you learn HOW to be healthy. The tapes on CONFLICT RESOLUTION, will help change your feelings about NOT eating or being -deprived- and the resentment which goes along with it. There is also a two tape set on "exercise" which helps you to specifically get rid of feelings you have that tend to keep you from exercising. Naturally, doing something that is FUN, is the BEST form of exercise. I took up Square Dancing, and in addition to the stepper, we dance three nights a week, from 7:30 to 10:30. A friend turned me on to learning how, and it has turned out to be one of the most fun activities my wife and I have done for years. She even went out and bought a sewing machine, and began sewing again. She makes custom fitted Shirts for me, and dresses, blouses, and skirts for herself. She has been kept busy over the past years, just taking them in as I have dropped sizes. [grin] We have also made a LOT of real good friends.
