Setting up your website template:

Step 1:
EDIT FLASH ANIMATION: | Click for more details
Open the "flash.txt" file in Notepad and change "yourwebsitetitle.com" after the "logo=" and after the "&logo_protected=" to match your name or company name. Be sure not to delete the "logo=" or "&logo_protected=". Then change the 3 "&textline1=" to anything you would like. Be sure not to delete the "&textline1=" parts. Also, change the text after the "&playing=" to your homepage song name. This will change the Flash logo on all pages. If you wish to use a graphic logo, there are instructions later in this document.

FLASH HEADER IMAGE:
You can replace the image in the background in the Flash header. Edit the flash-image.jpg in the picts folder to replace this.

THE FLASH IMAGE CHANGER: | Click for more details
The animation in the homepage window is showing 8 .jpg images. You will find these images in the "flash" folder. You can simply replace "image1.jpg" through "image8.jpg" with any standard .jpg images and the flash will update. Make your images 125 x 200 pixels in size.

Step 2:
EDIT COPYRIGHT: | Click for more details
Open the "copyright.js" file in Notepad or any text editor and change the "Your Name or Band" and "info@yourdomain.com" lines to match your information. This will change the lower page info on all pages.

Step 3:
EDIT CONTACT INFO: | Click for more details
Open the "phone.js" file in Notepad or any text editor and change the company name, address, phone number and e-mail address. This will change contact info on the "contact" page.

Step 4:
EDIT THE CONTACT FORM: | Click for more details
If you are setup with an AllWebCo hosting account or your hosting company uses Formmail, go to your control panel at "http://your-domain.com/cgi-bin/plusmail" and install the free script "Formail" then edit the contact page called "window-contact.htm" in Notepad or any text editor and replace "your-domain.com" in 3 places with your domain.

If you are not set up with AllWebCo hosting or do not have "Formail" installed. You can either setup the contact form to use another contact script, install "Formail" on your server or you can remove the contact form from the pages between the comment tags. Click for help.

If you wish to change the sizes of the form elements you can open the "coolstyle.css" in Notepad or any text editor and change the ".shadeform" ".textarea" and ".dropdown" width numbers.

Step 5:
SETTING UP THE GALLERY: | Click for more details | Thumbnail Help
Because this template includes a slideshow, the best way to setup the pictures in the gallery and the slide show at the same time is not to actually edit the HTML pages and change the pictures on each individual page. The fastest way is to simply replace the pictures in the "gallery" directory with your own by overwriting the files that are in there now and using the same generic names.

Replace the "Fgallery" pictures in the "gallery" directory with full size photos. Replace the "gallery" pictures with your thumbnails. The thumbnails are now most likely 100 x 70 pixels but you can make them any size that you prefer.

PICTURE VIEWING AND SLIDESHOW OPTIONS: | Click for more details
This template includes 33 options for the pop-closeup.js including pop-up or full browser image views. To change these options, open your "pop-closeup.js" in Notepad and put a "yes" or "no" (all lowercase) for the options you want to change. You can also change the height and width variables and colors as well as turn on and off the scrollbars. See the notes in the "pop-closeup.js" for details. The background colors are defined in the "coolstyle.css". See "quick color change" options later in the document.

Step 6:
EDIT THE SOUND FILES:
All the sounds used on this template can be found in 2 locations. In the "sounds" folder and in the "sounds_protected" folder inside the "protected-area" folder.

HOMEPAGE SOUND:
The homepage is using Flash to play the opening song. To replace this, find the homepage.mp3 file in the sounds folder. Simply replace this with your own .mp3 file. Try to keep the file small so the site downloads faster. To remove the sound on the homepage, find and delete the code between these notes "FLASH HOMEPAGE PLAYER" on the index.html.

SOUND GALLERIES: | Click for pop-up viewer variables
The samples page and protected "sound gallery" can use any type of sounds, .mp3, .mid, .wav or any other browser compatible files. You will replace all the .mp3 files in the "sounds" folder (used on the window-samples.htm page) and in the "protected-area/sounds_protected" folder (used on the 4 sound-?.htm pages) with your own. Each mp3 file is named for the page and placement on the page. Example: "songp1-1.mp3" is on "protected-area/sound-1.htm", spot 1. "songp2-12.mp3" is on "protected-area/sound-2.htm", spot 12. It's quicker to simply replace these mp3 files rather than edit the HTML pages, although you can do this either way so your names will match your actual song names. Editing the mp3 HTML code is best done in Notepad or HTML view before you start editing the pages using wysiwyg HTML software.

EDIT THE PRESS KIT MESSAGE: | Click for more details
Found in the "window-press.htm" page from the "Press Kit" link. The default welcome message is called welcome.mp3 and can be found in the "sounds" folder. Simply replace this with your own .mp3 file or video to update the message. Click above to view the complete available options.

Step 7:
SETUP THE PASSWORD PROTECTED AREA | Click for more details
This template includes password protection. You have the option to have users pay through Paypal to join, or to sign up for your mailing list to join. Click here for setup details. Once you login, all the files in this area can be found in the "protected-area" folder. You can change the password or the security options. There also is a thank you page included. The robots.txt file in this template is to keep search engines out of the protected-area folder.

Step 8:
EDIT PAGES: | Software choices | Notepad Editing
Change the text on all pages to match your information. You can use Frontpage, Dreameaver or any wysiwyg editor or a text editor like Notepad. Take care not to delete any of the HTML tags that surround the text if you use Notepad.

Step 9:
EDIT PAGE TITLES, DESCRIPTIONS AND KEYWORDS: | Click for more details
Open each of the pages and change the page titles (at the very top of the page) and also the description and the keywords to match your product or service. You can edit one page and copy and paste to the other pages. Be careful to only change what's inside the "" so you don't disturb the html code. Keywords are very important so your site will get a good listing at Google or Msn and other search engines.

Step 10:
UPLOAD: | Click for more details
Upload the pages on to your hosting company's server using ftp software like CuteFTP or Coffee Cup (free) or your control panel. Be sure to make a directory called picts on your server and put the pictures into that directory. If you have AllWebCo hosting be sure to put everything in the "www" directory.

Options:
USING A GRAPHIC LOGO:
You can replace the Flash logo with a graphic one. To do this, delete or rename the header.js, then rename the "graphic_logo_header.js" to "header.js". In the picts directory you will find a graphic called "logo.jpg", open this graphic and edit it with your logo.

QUICK COLOR CHANGES: | Click for more details | More color details
This template features quick color changes. You will edit these files in Notepad to change the colors: The coolstyle.css, pop-closeup.js and the header.js. Click the above link for details.

EDITING THE MP3 PLAYER IN THE POP-UP: | Click for more details
You can control which players are showing, if the download icons show and more in the mp3 player popup. Open the "pop-closeup.js" in a text editor and check the notes inside for more details.

THE ZIP DOWNLOAD PAGE:
This page is created so users can download your zip files. You can have anything you would like included. You will find the 4 linked empty .zip files in the "protected-area" folder. Edit the zipped.htm to change the page. NOTE: You must upload the template to check the zip links. They may not work on your local hard drive.

FONTS: | Click for more details
You can change your font colors and sizes by editing the "coolstyle.css" with a text editor. You can find other font colors by clicking here. You can also change the font sizes in the "coolstyle.css" file. Change the "TABLE" px size to change the copy on all pages. Change the "subtitle" px size to change all the subtitle sizes.

CHANGING / ADDING MENU BUTTONS: | Click for more details
You can change the names and links on the buttons to other page names by editing the "menu.js", the "menu_bottom.js", menu_windows.js and the "menu_protected.js" (in the protected-area folder). Only change the one instance of the name and not the name with the ".htm" after it unless you want the page link to change. Whatever you change in any of the 4 menus will change every page on the website. Keep the names short so the menus stay neat. You can even add more pages but copying one button in one of the menu.js files and pasting it right below the next. Be sure to back up your file before you edit them.

PAGE TARGETS: Because some pages are opening in the window, you will need targets on your links. Open your "menu.js" file in Notepad. You will see that for example the "Samples" link has target="soundframe" in the link so it will open in the window. In the "menu_windows.js" you will see that the "Home" link has target="_top" in the link. These are the only two target types you will need to use.

PICTURES: | Click for more details
You can replace the pictures with your own. The pictures are generally 125 x 200 pixels but you can use any size picture you want but 125 x 200 pixels is recommended. Each page has it's own picture which is named according to the page it's on. You will find all pictures in the "picts" and "gallery" folders. You will find the 8 images used in the Flash inside your "flash" folder.

ABOUT THE MAIN BACKGOUND IMAGE:
The homepage background image, background-homepage.jpg, can be found in the "picts" folder and is 900 x 601 pixels. You can make your image smaller or larger. This image was created by selecting the edges, feathering 50 pixels and then the "delete" key was hit to clear the edges with black as the background color. The brightness was then edited and it was saved at medium quality.

USING GALLERY PAGES FOR VIDEO: | Click for more details

  1. Copy a gallery page.
  2. Make a copy of the pop-closeup.js and name the new file pop-video.js.
  3. Edit the new gallery page and change the line near the top (line 24) to call the pop-video.js instead of the pop-closeup.js.

  5. In the new gallery page find "javascript:popUp" in 9 places and replace this with "javascript:popUpSound".
  6. Setup each gallery link with your video links on your new gallery page. Click here for details.

SETTING UP THE SLIDESHOW PICTURES: | Click for more details
The slideshow is currently setup to display all the pictures in the gallery directory. If you would like to add or remove pictures from the slideshow, open the slideshow.htm in Notepad and look for the "EDIT THIS AREA" note. Copy and paste to add new pictures to the list, or delete lines to remove pictures. You can also set the AutoPlay speed. Look for "var rotate_delay = 3000".

SIZING THE SLIDESHOW:
See "PICTURE VIEWING AND SLIDESHOW OPTIONS" above on this page.

ADDING PAGES OR GALLERIES: | Click for more details
There are two types of pages in the template. The main outside pages, and the "window" pages. Window pages start with "window-" in the name except for in the protected-area folder. You can add pages to your website by copying and pasting any one of the pages and renaming it to whatever you need. You can then add links from the other pages or even add the page to the menu by opening the menu.js (see help above) and copying and pasting one of the buttons below another. There are notes in the gallery pages to help you copy and paste to add more pictures and more galleries. Be sure to back up your files before you edit them.
